A Wine Lover's Weekly Report on $10 Wines - A Cooperative German Riesling

Because the holiday season approaches you need to reflect on many issues, including our prejudices. I admit it; I am an unabashed fan of German Rieslings, mainly the sweet ones. Sometimes. I am not so prejudiced i love as well as like several ones. Today's offering develops from a 2600-member wine grower's association within the Mosel region of central western Germany, said by so many to become where to cultivate Rieslings on the globe. The Romans and Celts grew wine grapes of this type 2000 in the past. The reds now take into account about 6% with the local production. If you are sufficiently fortunate to get have el born area be sure to check out the twin cities of Bernkasteler about the east bank and Kues around the west bank in the Mosel River. You'll savor the historic market square, lovely half-timbered houses, plus a castle. Early September means an incredible wine festival. The companion liquid is a fancier Rheingau Riesling at somewhat under twice the value.

Moselland Bernkasteler Kurfurstlay Riesling 2011
9.5 % alcohol
about $10.

Let's move on by quoting the marketing materials. "Tasting Note: Pale straw yellow colour; citrus, mineral and dried apricot aromas and flavours; balanced with crisp acidity in the finish. Serving Suggestion: Served chilled with pork, turkey or appetizers. Spicy asian dishes." Now in my review.

With the first sips this wine was pleasantly sweet with good acidity. The first meal dedicated to home made chicken white meat nuggets dusted with garlic powder and pepper. The Riesling's sweetness lightened since its acidity stepped up. The Matbucha salad composed of tomatoes, tomato puree, sweet pimentos, hot peppers, garlic and more added lemons and some smoke to the libation. Dousing the meat with Jalapeno pepper mix imparted a facet of candy to your German friend. Fresh raspberries rendered the wine thin on the other hand did note fine acidity and pleasant sweetness in my glass.

My next meal began with Japanese rice crackers featuring Wasabi and Edame that the libation responded with bracing acidity. Then came a packaged Baked Ziti Siciliano that we liberally doused with grated Parmesan cheese. Responding the liquid was light but itssweetness emerged much more than acceptable, tamed by refreshing acidity. Fresh permissions muted your wine somewhat. A granola bar full of dried fruit and seeds took away Whitey's sweetness and a lot of the company's fruit.

The last meal was comprised of an omelet perked track of pepper, cayenne pepper, sliced garlic, and cumin. Currently the wine was somewhat flowery having its sugar slightly out of balance. Along side it dish of zesty guacamole returned enough acidity to manage the libation's sweetness. Ben and Jerry's Basically Stood a 1,000,000 Flavors Ice Cream had the expected effect of flattening your wine.

Final verdict. Perhaps since i like a lot of German Rieslings very well I can't buy that one again. If you aren't informed about this type of wine and don't mind some sweetness with your glass I definitely advise that you provide it a go.
